Chlorhexidine gluconate is an antiseptic agent that has been shown to decrease microbial flora on the skin and prevent infection risk in various settings, including as a skin preparatory agent for surgical procedures and for insertion of vascular access devices, as a surgical hand scrub, and for oral hygiene.
Chlorhexidine gluconate has been shown to reduce plaque in the oral cavity, it has been shown to be effective in minimizing the septic episodes in the oral cavity when used with other chemotherapeutic agents.
Chlorhexidine The effectiveness of chlorhexidine is documented in many controlled clinical trials showing a 50% to 60% decrease in plaque, a 30% to 45% reduction in gingivitis, and a reduction in the number of oral bacteria.
