The difference between Ambroxan and Super Ambroxan

(A)Composition and Structure: ambroxan is the main component of natural ambergris, a bicyclic dihydro-guaiacol ether with a specific stereochemical structure. Super ambroxan is synthetically produced and has a chemical structure similar to ambroxan, but it may be prepared through different synthetic routes and raw materials, such as from lavandulol and others.

(B)  Aroma characteristics: Ambroxan has a soft, long-lasting, and stable animalic ambergris aroma, accompanied by a mild woody note. Super ambroxan has a more intense aroma, with a heavier woody note, and a more mellow and non-aggressive scent.

(C)  Physical property:There are differences in optical activity between ambroxan and Super ambroxan ‌. Super ambroxan has no optical activity, while ambroxan has optical activity. Specifically, the specific optical rotation of ambroxan is -30°(c=1% in toluene)‌
The chemical formula of ambroxan is C16H28O, with a molecular weight of 236.39 and a melting point of 74-76°C. It is a solid crystal, commonly used to enhance the flavor of food and as a flavor enhancer. Super ambroxan is mainly used in perfume formulations to bring a warm, rich and elegant scent to all kinds of perfumes, from pure floral to modern Oriental scent.

(D)  Application scenarios: Both are widely used in perfume, cosmetics and other fragrance formulations as fixatives and aroma enhancers. Additionally, the ambroxan can also be used for cigarette flavoring, food additives, etc. Super ambroxan is mainly applied in high-end perfumes and fragrance formulations to enhance the richness and longevity of the aroma.
